Your Bio

. My passion for painting began at age 10 when my grandfather gave me an easel to help pass the time while I recuperated from infantile paralysis. Granddaddy was the reason I went to Norway in August, 2006 -- to trace my family ancestry. But I digress . . .
. At Grinnell College (Grinnell, IA), I pursued my passion and majored in art. Later, during an l8-year, professional Public Relations career with the YWCA in Iowa, Texas, Virginia, and California and the American Red Cross in Los Angeles, I honed my graphics skills.
. For fun, I designed costumes for a professional theatrical company in Hollywood.
. For the last 30 years, I've been doing what I enjoy most -- painting, and when I can manage it, working from live models -- the ultimate challenge as well as the ultimate pleasure, for me.
. Last summer I discovered Norway as you'll see in one of my galleries.
. The Lord has blessed me with good health, good teachers, and the support of family and friends in the pursuit of my craft.
Only recently have I discovered a new passion -- I love to put together and narrate slide shows. So I opened a website where I can share the shows, some with my art work.

Norway, my ancestral home : On a trip to Norway in August, 2006, I not only traced my roots, I found family and my ancestral home. My experience was so rich that when I came home. I dedicated the next several months to composing pastel paintings based on my many sketches, photos and, most of all, memories that will never fade. Here is that collection which I exhibited in January, 2007, at a gallery in California. At that time, fine art, giclee prints will be available for sale. For sizes and prices, email me from my home page. (Click first on joanjones, above, and then on email at the end of my biog.)

Experimental : This is the newest direction I've taken, and it's both scary and exciting to relinquish control. I randomly underpaint with powdered charcoal and powdered pigment and then deciding the direction I want to take the piece.
